This Senior Citizens group was established in 1979. In 2015, we became known as the "Young at Heart".
The ministry has a wide variety of goals and activities for its members. The spiritual, cultural, and social enrichment of each member, as well as support of parish activities and programs, are important goals of this organization. Examples of activities include: May Crowning, Day of Recollection, Senior Citizen Mass, and special luncheons which may be held at locations other than Lakeshore Playground.
During the fiscal year, our ministry will collect non-perishable food items for those in need, as well as helping the school and other groups by collecting Community coffee bags, aluminum can pull tabs, Betty Crocker education coupons, hearing aids, eyeglasses and sunglasses.
Our meetings are held at Lakeshore Playground (in the building across from the gym) on the first Thursday of the month from September through May at 11:30 until 2:30 p.m.
A short business session is held, socializing, bingo, and lunch are part of each meeting. We occasionally have a guest speaker whose topic could be of interest to our members. We have entertainment programs in observance of special holidays.
Birthdays are recognized and attendance prizes as well as other gifts are given at each meeting. Most importantly, it is an opportunity for our seniors to get together with friends, both old and new. Our membership is open to all St. Angela Merici parishioners who have attained the age of 55 years old. The maximum enrollment is 120 members. We are not accepting any new out-of-parish seniors.
As approved by the Executive Board, our annual dues are $15.00. The dues are collected in September. Please make checks payable to: St. Angela Merici Senior Citizens. If dues are not paid by the November meeting, the member will be dropped from the membership list. If a member has reached the age of 90 years, dues will not be collected.
We welcome you with smiles and open arms in joining us for the fun we have at these meetings!
